Bringing Colour to the Middle Ages
We run several workshops throughout the year. They are a great way to experience the middle ages.
Learn basic pen skills, practice the alphabet and have a go at writing your name in a Medieval style with a quill. All materials are provided. Please be aware that using dip pens and ink can be messy. Suitable for older children and adults. Younger children are welcome but may not find it easy.
These will be available at Valhalla Viking Festival
25th to 27th July 2025: valhallavikingfestival.co.uk
This is a basic introduction to the joys of bookbinding and leatherwork. Stain and decorate your leather cover and sew the cover and book pages together. After adding a leather strap for closure, you'll have your own historic-looking book to keep. The course is open to all ages, but it does include staining leather and sewing with a needle. All materials included.
These will be available at Valhalla Viking Festival

Try your hand at tablet weaving (One of the oldest and simplest weaving techniques) and watch as, with a few turns of the cards, a wonderful pattern appears. With the looms set up and ready to go this is a great activity for adults and children alike (7 and over with parental supervision), and you get to keep what you weave.

In this workshop, you'll master the art of crafting a Viking-inspired belt using a blend of traditional weaving techniques and modern materials. We’ll guide you through the process of threading and manipulating cards to create intricate patterns, and you'll also learn to interpret a straightforward weaving pattern. By the end of the session, you'll not only have your hand-woven belt to take home but also a sample showcasing various techniques.
