Bringing Colour to the Middle Ages
We are a family of artisans who travel around the country demonstrating medieval artistic skills at events, battles and markets. We also sell genuine unique artworks at a reasonable price. And we run various workshops and have-a-go sessions. We always try to be authentic and love immersing ourselves in the world of the middle ages. We began trading in 2020, so we're pretty new to this.
Ben is the Master Scribe and Limner (a limner is a person who paints illuminated manuscripts). He has been practising calligraphy since 2018, but has been a professional graphic designer and illustrator all his life. He also enoys leather-working and carpentry.
Maeve began on the stall demonstrating tablet weaving. She has since taken up embroidery and now produces amazing hand stiched artworks.
Alex is the apprentice scribe and is pretty handy a old english scripts and runes. Alex also makes the leather bracelets and necklaces that we sell on the stall and also makes chainmail bracelets.
There is lots to see and do and buy at the Hiow-Beorht stall.
Hiow-Beorht is old english for colourful. 'Hiow' translates directly as Hue and 'Beorht' as Bright - so hue-bright, or bright of hue.
